the 2022 Scholarship is a wrap!
On November 12, 2022, after a long break due to Covid, CCMP was pleased to host their annual Eleanor Calbes Memorial Scholarship. Taking place at Glenbrook Presbyterian Church, it was an afternoon of beautiful music. Young, non-professional vocalists ages 9-19 prepared songs in the classical and musical theatre genres. Vocalists were separated into 3 categories: Junior, Intermediate, and Senior. The love of singing and performance was quite evident as each young singer took to the stage. It was a wonderful opportunity for young people to have a chance to perform for an audience, listen to the different vocal styles of their peers and receive constructive feedback. Adjudicators Marnie Kersten, Jamie Marr and Erin Mouchian had their work cut out for them to choose a winner in each category, as they were witness to so much musical talent. Special thanks to Victor Cheng for providing piano accompaniment with ease and musicality that fully supported each performer.
The adjudicators made mention that each performer should feel proud of their accomplishments and to continue to share their talents with others. Each was encouraged to continue singing and performing and to look for opportunities to get involved in their community. A great way to do this is to join inclusive community theatre groups, like CCMP, where opportunities to perform onstage, help backstage, and work offstage building and painting sets and props, are available to any and all who would like to take part.
Congratulations to all of our young performers! You were brave, confident and it was a pleasure to hear each and everyone of you share your gift of singing.
Junior Winner: Lanna Sanchez
Intermediate Winner: Ella Leven-Rivlin
Senior Winner: Nicholas Gryniewski
A little bit about our founder...

Eleanor Calbes (20 February 1940 – 19 April 2016) was a Filipina soprano who was awarded a scholarship with The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. was the first woman from the Philippines to perform on Broadway. She performed globally until retiring in September 2012.
